Today, I’ll be joining Charlotte’s most well-known (notorious?) Twitter stars at #Tweeta20 to raise money and awareness for Thompson Child & Family Focus, a non-profit that helps kids and families break the cycle of violence, abuse and neglect.
So, here’s the deal: This whole shebang only works if you donate. Pony up $20, will ya?! This event ain’t called #Tweeta20 for nothin’.
Tight on cash? Here are 20 ways to save 20 bucks. No more excuses…join the cause:
- Switch to CFL lightbulbs and lower your energy bill (Thanks @LisaHoffmann!)
- Flirt with a barista at Starbucks Central Coffee and get your flavor shot free
- Bring Harry Hoover a bottle of Two Buck Chuck instead of that fancy-schmancy wine he always drinks
- Shop at Goodwill — 20 retail stores in the Southern Piedmont (I just bought a new dress shirt there, and I’ll go double-or-nothing on that $20 you can’t tell which of my shirts it is.)
- Carpool. Duh.
- Visit Snacksquare to see which Charlotte restaurants offer Foursquare mayor specials (You DO know Foursquare has marketing potential, right?).
- Sew your own “Social Media Ninja” outfit. Why pay retail?
- Win free tickets to see “Wicked” at Ovens Auditorium (Box office price: $40)
- Hold off on buying the iPad. It’s like the Readers Digest Large Print Edition of computers…same junk you have on your iPhone, just bigger.
- Reserve a county park facility instead of a big wedding hall or private venue.
- Attend one of Corey Creed’s classes on saving time.
- Stop buying sheep on Farmville. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!
- Pack a lunch instead of eating out.
- Follow @CLTdining to learn about 1/2-price lunch specials, free appetizers and drink deals.
- Don’t buy new clothes — get more mileage out of your existing wardrobe! Connect with my friend (Disclosure: Client) Catherine Horgan at Closet of Style for personal style tips and fashion consulting.
- Reduce your consumption. C’mon, is it really that hard?
- Ask the Federal government for a bailout.
- Did I mention you could win free tickets to Wicked?
- Cancel your Internet service. Hang out at Amelie’s Bakery and enjoy irresistible pastries and free wi-fi.
- Make a skirt out of Sham-Wows and sell it on Kirtsy.
There you have it: 20 fool-proof ways to save money. So…you ready to donate?
