Rule #1 in business, Rule #1 in marketing, Rule #1 in leadership is to ask your customers for their business. And I’m guilty, guilty, guilty.
Each July, I engage in a passive-aggressive ritual as my birthday approaches. Friends and family ask me what I want for my birthday and I tell them I don’t want anything. Of course, this is a lie. I want stuff. I just don’t want to ask for it. I clam up like a monk on a vow of silence. Why? I don’t know. Maybe I like the surprise. Maybe I just hate the all-too-American practice of asking for stuff. Either way, I’m leave my birthday in the hands of fate…at the risk of getting a sweater vest
